The Migration butterfly necklace honors one of nature's most sacred journeys: the 3,000-mile passage from Canada to Mexico that symbolizes the return of ancestors for Day of the Dead. Through the ancient art of Keum-boo (koom-boo), pure 24K gold is permanently fused to oxidized sterling silver, creating luminous contrast between deep black and warm gold that shifts as you move. A single butterfly captured mid-flight, its 1-inch wingspan creating a bold focal point at your collarbone as 24k gold flows along wing edges like liquid light. The delicate chain features marquise charms linked with 14K gold or 14k gold-filled accents for subtle contrast. Choose to add a sparkling 2mm diamond bezel-set in 14K gold where the wings meet. A wearable reminder for the path ahead - carrying both the monarch's endurance and centuries-old craftsmanship through your own extraordinary journey.

For those who know that moving forward takes more courage than standing still.

Artist's Statement

The Imaginal Cell Butterfly Collection

When a caterpillar experiences metamorphosis, it must first come to terms with its mortality. Amorphous cells, known as Imaginal Cells, multiply within the chrysalis, impervious to the caterpillar’s immune system. When the Imaginal Cells finally reach critical mass, the defeated caterpillar accepts its mortal fate, and metamorphosis begins. At this point, the newly awakened cells band together, transform, and become the mysterious creature that we know as “butterfly.”

The Imaginal Cell Collection honors the transformative, creative process of not knowing. Sometimes we must let go of the traditional constructs we “understand” to discover something new and beautiful within ourselves. This body of work deconstructs the geometric forms of the iconic monarch wing, transforming them into unexpected patterns and celebrating nature’s symmetry.

We are the sum of our own imaginations. Letting go is the seed to metamorphosis.
